I’ve finally found a Char Kuey Teow that transports me back to Penang. Maybe not as good as Siam Road or Tiger Char Kuey Teow but stlll one of the better ones without having to travel 350km away. Hidden away in Kota Damansara, this little gem serves up a plate of Char Kuey Teow that’s as authentic as it gets. The moment I stepped in, the familiar Penang ambiance washed over me. Especially when the lady boss starts taking order from you in Penang Hokkien, adding to the authentic experience.
The Char Kuey Teow itself is a revelation. It’s got that perfect balance of smoky wok hei, sweet and savory flavors, and a delightful texture. The ingredients are fresh, and the prawns are plump and juicy. It’s the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes and savor every bite.
Now, let’s talk about the downsides. Finding a parking spot can be a nightmare, especially during peak hours. I recommend parking at The Strand and taking a short walk. And be prepared to wait – this place is always packed! I’m talking about a 30-minute wait at least, and that’s without any extra toppings. If you’re feeling adventurous, ask for extra ‘siham’ (cockles) or prawns. But be warned: customizing your Char Kuey Teow can add to the waiting time.
One more thing: the spice level is customizable, but don’t be tempted to go full throttle. Trust me, you might regret it. The perfect level of spice is what elevates this dish to another level.
All in all, this Char Kuey Teow is a must-try for any Penang food lover in Kota Damansara. Just be prepared to exercise a little patience for this culinary treasure.
